Lead Members for Children’s Services are responsible for providing leadership to children’s services in their area and hold a statutory role.

The Leadership Essentials Children’s Services Programme is a 2-day residential development event providing an intensive introduction to the role of Lead Member.

The programme includes high quality speakers, opportunities for debate and discussion and an emphasis on learning from fellow councillors.

Sessions will include:

• Political Leadership in the current policy context

• Exploring the statutory role and key relationships

• Political Leadership in a challenging environment through exploring a ‘real’ case study of an authority’s improvement journey

• Leadership of the education agenda

This 2-day programme is also for Chairs of Children’s Services Scrutiny Committees.

The cost of attending this programme is fully subsidised. This includes accommodation, meals, course materials and tuition.

This is what councillors who attended the programme previously have had to say about it:

“I am new to the role, feel happier & more confident after course”.

“A really enjoyable and beneficial course.”

“Two days excellently facilitated, allowed the group to find the answers.”

“I appreciate the support and sponsorship to attend this event- personal development is so important!”
