FutureSocial - Next Steps Event

The Next Steps Event brought people together on the 9th January, from across the West Midlands Children's Services workforce. This included Principal Social Workers, Workforce Leads, IT Specilalists, Participation Leads, HR Business Partners and Directors of Children's Service...and of course the FutureSocial Project Team and Programme Board.

The aim of the day was to work together to describe what good and outstanding services look like in 2021 and then how did we get there. The main focus was on the Social Work workforce however these things can't be discussed or played through without clear inclusion of partners and the Social Care workforce too.


The Event was hosted by Coventry City Council, at One Friargate - the day was sunny but that's not how travel was being described by some delegates.


So a particular thank you to those of you whose travel arrangements didn't go quite as planned.












There was plenty of positive discussion and debate, with a focus on:

  • the workforce

  • the region

  • good services

  • improved outcomes for children

We called for imagination and lateral thinking, while being grounded in reality with a liberal dusting of aspiration






















"Pick a card, any card" for an early activity there were a number of role cards. Some easier to imagine in 2021 than others!

We were fortunate to have Melanie John-Ross and Karen Jones from the Yorks and Humber, Children's Social Work Matters Project taking us through their story. (link to presentation)

The wealth of information and feedback from the 2021activities, consultation on Bronze, Silver, Gold and the draft Implementation Plan was taken back to the FutureSocial office where it is being collated. For evaluation and Next Steps please come back soon for a further update.












And as for the current top five regional priorities well......perhaps you like to have a guess??
