Delegates from across the West Midlands Childrens Services Departments and Children’s Trusts met in Birmingham on Monday (8th October) to hear presentations from 9 recruitment agencies on how they could support them in finding permanent staff.
The event which was organised by the FutureSocial Programme Team was held at the Birmingham & Midlands Institute.
The invited agencies had all responded to a request for information held at the Agencies Providers Forum on 25th May and had since met with the Steve Stuart, the Regional Workforce Co-Ordinator, to gain further regional background to tailor their proposals.
Following on from the event all the councils / trusts within the region can look to register their interest in exploring the proposals further and where more than one council has expressed an interest these will be linked by the FutureSocial Team so there can be work undertaken to see what synergies can be drawn and if any economies of scale can be brought to bear.
John Gregg, Chair of the FutureSocial Project board and WMDCS lead for Workforce, said, “In order to assist in our improvement journey it is key that we access expert knowledge. This means not only in terms of Social Work Professionals but those who recruit them into the area itself. In one single event we have effectively facilitated 126 individual presentations between agencies and councils and laid the groundwork for progressive work in filling vacancies with the kind of skilled staff we require across the region.”
“The feedback we have received from both delegates and providers shows that all appreciate the forward thinking nature of this initiative. It is important though that this is seen as only the start of the work and not the end so that the benefits can be translated into positive action on behalf of Children and Families across the West Midlands Region.”
