Building the PSW network

Our recent PSW meeting was well attended with representation from across the region.

There was some really interesting discussions, and we received a presentation from Jess McEwan the Regional Engagement Lead from Social Work England, about the role and function of Social Work England who will take over as the social work regulator from the HCPC on 2nd December 2019. They have devised a revised set of practice standards for social workers and for training of social workers. They are keen to work collaboratively with the sector and are holding a series of events across the country with one being held in Nottingham on 13th November.

The meeting also considered areas of strength and areas for practice improvement across the region and how to maximise support between councils and trusts. The regional PSW Conference is a key event in the year and the meeting began the planning for this, deciding that the theme would be based on sharing good outcomes for children. A task and finish group has been set up to take forward the planning for the conference which is likely to be held in January 2020 and will be opened up to all Social Workers, we will be working with Senior Managers in

all Councils and Trusts to work-out how many places are needed. Watch this space.

Marie Hatton, Regional PSW Chair commented " The meeting was a great success and provided a great opportunity for the PSWs to network and share ideas for the future priorities for improving the quality of social work practice. "
